Arranging cans, boxes and jars in a freestanding pantry cabinet may not be fun for everyone. However, we can probably all agree that having an organized food storage system is very handy, if not gratifying.
Find items faster, save money by avoiding buying duplicates and you will probably be able to fit more in your closet. Here are 7 simple tips to get started:
1. Categorize Your Food Storage:
First, organize your foods and other dry goods into categories. For example, cans, pasta, drinks, snacks, baking ingredients, spices & seasonings, paper products, etc..
2. Get Rid of Clutter that You Don’t Need in Your Kitchen:
Second, get rid of expired products, unused appliances or random items that belong elsewhere.
3. Organize Items into Containers:
Next, systematize foods into separate bins, tubs or other containers. Get clear containers or use labels so you can quickly view what you have without having to dig around.
The Dollar Tree has fun cheap storage containers that won’t set you back much. Not to mention, having a bunch of matching bins or baskets can make you feel more put together.
Start with organizational tools like under-shelf baskets, stackable can racks, lazy susans, wall hooks and pull-out baskets. Gain storage space and make supplies easier to reach.
4. Arrange Items According to Frequency of Use:
For example, put frequently-eaten foods at eye level, and place kids’ snacks lower.
5. Extra Storage on Top of Cabinet
And if you have a freestanding kitchen cupboard, don’t forget the top of the cabinet itself. For instance, you can place a decorative bowl or vase and actually use it to store extra items that you use infrequently.
Need More Storage Space? Maybe 2 pantry cabinets will work better for you than one. For example, you could use one in the kitchen for food and one in the dining room for dishes, placemats and napkins.
6. Take Advantage of Door Space
On freestanding cabinets, try attaching hooks on the backs of the doors to create extra storage. Larges doors can sometimes accommodate over-the-door organizers.
7. Prevent Clutter from Creeping Back In:
